Peter lived on the Brassard College campus with his father Charles and brother James. James was frequently molested by Charles, a professor at the college. Eventually, on April 6, 1984, when Peter was fifteen years old, he couldn't stand his brother's suffering anymore and slashed James's wrists, making it look like a suicide. From that moment, Peter adopted an Angel of Death-like sense of mercy. Three months prior to the episode, a fire occurred at the Shadyside Recreational Center that resulted in the deaths of fourteen children. This set off Peter's serial killing: he would attend multiple anonymous support group meetings for people grieving, looking for parents of the deceased children, and then kill them. When Paul Baleman, the brother of police officer Ronnie Baleman, was found electrocuted in his bathtub, he became suspicious and called in the BAU to investigate Paul's suicide and four others.

He may work in the medical field or in a law enforcement position, as Angels of Death typically are. He may also be a first responder who was present on the day of the fire at the recreational center. He is also intelligent enough to know his victims' schedules and daily routines. He is all about control, as he chooses how and when they die, and he even positions them exactly to how he wants them to die. This makes him hyper-vigilant, someone who is always on the lookout, risk-averse, and unseen. The fire at the recreational center caused so much grief and suffering for the children's parents, which became a trigger for the unsub. Now, he is unable to stop himself from targeting people he believes needs his help. As more information on the case was revealed, it became possible that if the unsub's father taught at Brassard, the unsub himself may be a local to the area, and the only way to catch him is to find out how he is getting into his victims' lives.

At the Waldorf's Serena recaps her plan to Nate. While he's with Jenny, she invited Damian over for lunch in anticipation that he would try to have sex with her again. Nate says they should just tell Jenny, but Serena is positive her plan will work. At the loft, Dan tells Rufus that Jenny's forbidden guy phase is normal. Rufus mentions how Dan's been sleeping out a lot, and Dan brushes it off. Vanessa shows up to help look for Jenny, and Dan proposes a map of friends with benefits versus just friends zone. She says no, but Dan still insists they talk about boundaries. While talking to Damian, Serena lies and says she and Nate are no longer a thing and she has no feelings for him. Damian rejects her, saying he's with Jenny and actually likes her. He says he's sorry about Nate and leaves. Serena tries to call Nate, but he ignores the call. Jenny is confused about what's taking them so long to leave when Rufus arrives at the restaurant to get Jenny.

At the Waldorf's, Serena and Blair are getting ready for Chuck's party. Nate calls and Blair answers and puts him on speaker phone. He says that Serena might not get it, but losing her virginity is a big deal to a girl like Jenny. Serena takes offense and hangs up on him. At the loft, Rufus sees Jenny watching Dirty Dancing. He tells her that he needs to go to the gala to talk to Lily and has to take Jenny because he can't trust her alone. Outside The Empire, there's a crowd of protestors. Blair arrives at Chuck's penthouse and sees him packaging a glass that Elizabeth used. She figures out he's planning to conduct a DNA test and is disappointed in him. He points out that she shows up out of the blue, doesn't know things about Bart, and when she hears Jack is coming to the party, she bails. Elizabeth overhears, as she came to tell Chuck she changed her mind. Chuck is still insistent on a DNA test, and she tells him that he is his father's son and leaves. Blair decides just to meet Chuck there.

Chuck is sitting alone when his lawyer comes to tell him that things have taken a turn. He tells Chuck how the Family Travel Council is organizing a boycott. Chuck is fine with the idea, saying that will only increase his clientele. His lawyer reasons that the hotel doesn't have the luxury of waiting around to see, and suggests Chuck hand over operations of the hotel for PR. Jack volunteers himself, and Chuck informs him that no matter what, that will never happen. Jack says he'll wait and when The Empire is bankrupt, he'll swoop in and buy it for a fair market price. Chuck asks if that was his plan all along and he says no, but he's going to reap the rewards. Meanwhile, Nate arrives at The Smith Hotel and discovers Damian's room is empty. Damian and Jenny are actually at The Empire. Blair goes to see Chuck and learns that he's going to have to sign the hotel away. Blair volunteers, and Chuck says that Blair running it is not a good idea. She suggest Lily, but Chuck says that since she's Bass Industries, she's not an option because he doesn't want his father's company bailing him out. At that moment, DNA results come in and Chuck says he officially has another option.

Dean, in the meantime, finds Rufus and bribes him with a bottle of Johnnie Walker Blue for the location of Bela. Rufus tells him the hotel Bela is staying at and presents Dean with Bela's criminal record. Dean then confronts Bela at the hotel. She tells him the Colt is gone and is on a plane with her buyer. He prepares to shoot her and tells her that he knows that when she was fourteen, she had the brake lines cut on her parents' car, an action that resulted in them being killed. Bela flashes back to when she was fourteen and remembers when her father used to come into her room and close the door (hinting that he was abusing her). Before Dean pulls the trigger, he makes a discovery: Bela has devil's shoestring placed above her door, indicating that she too is trying to keep out the devil. After Dean leaves without hurting her, Bela calls someone and lets them know that Dean was in her room and she knows where the brothers are, because she lifted the receipt from the Erie Hotel from Dean's pocket.

Jim spends the midseason premiere hanging with dear old Uncle Frank, a man who claims he is trying to make things right with Jim, but whose ties to the Court of Owls make pretty much everything he says questionable. Frank tells Jim that his father was a member of the Court of Owls, that Frank still is, and that they want Jim to be a member, too. Frank further tells Jim that it was the Court that killed his father, giving Jim an even greater interest in taking down the Court.

ven though Kate thought she was doing her mother a favor, her mother thought it was an act of selfishness.Kate's mother was RIGHT. Kate had murdered Wayne out of sheer selfishness. When are you going to stop believing that crap that Kate had murdered her father for her mother's sake? She was lying when she told Diane that. And Diane knew it.

Well well well, Lost has definitely not jumped the shark. This was a fine episode and it almost made me feel better about the last one, since at least I know I won't have to see N&P muck up the show again!It was sad to see Cassidy after Sawyer fleeced her. I mean, she had $600,000 (!) and now she's pulling old cons for $60. When I say I hate con men, I do limit that type of venom to the people who do what Sawyer did, or people who trick old ladies out of every penny they have. People who hustle someone for $60 are still bad, but anyone who willingly plays three card monte or buys jewelry from a stranger on the street are not the type of victims I lose sleep over.I agree that the Kate flashback about her mother didn't reveal much, since mom already displayed her anger the moment she learned what Kate had done. But there were still a lot of good scenes throughout the flashback and it helped clarify certain relationships.I loved the B story of Hurley conning Sawyer into being Mr. Nice Guy for a while. It was such a pleasure to see Sawyer revel in his newfound popularity. Josh Holloway was terrific in those scenes! It warmed my heart and made me wish he could've gone on for weeks that way, but the look on his face when he caught wind of the scam was comedy gold.But the best of the best was Kate and Juliet having so much "quality time" together. I wasn't sure who to root for, but the edge went to Juliet. I know I may be rooting for the bad guy, but I was quite delighted to see her kick Kate's ass.Yes, there has been a growing realization that while the Others know a whole lot more than the survivors about the island, they don't control everything and they have to worry about the monsters too. Who knows, maybe the monsters are really there to kill the Others rather than just anybody. The whole Good Ones and Bad Ones thing may just be a giant charade to convince themselves they deserve to survive.Manifestations? I don't see why the Others couldn't have just kidnapped Locke's dad from the U.S. and brought him to the island. But then Ben did tell Locke, "You were the one who brought him here." Is there something about the island that can read minds? That can delve into a person's subconscious? So that if Locke had this driving fury in his heart about his father, the island would command that the father be brought to face the consequences of his son's justified anger?Man, everyone on this show has daddy problems. Did you already say that Mike? But if normal people like Jack and Locke and Jin have problems with their dads, what the hell was Ben's dad like? As you alluded to Mike, I can't wait to see that backstory!Yay, Juliet is in the camp! This means more Juliet!
