The series was created by Jon Bokenkamp, and continues to be produced by Davis Entertainment, Universal Television and Sony Pictures Television, and executive produced by Jon Bokenkamp, John Davis, John Eisendrath, John Fox and Joe Carnahan. This is the last season to star Megan Boone.[3]
The eighth season follows Elizabeth Keen and her mother Katarina Rostova in their attempts to take down Reddington, who eventually kills Rostova. Elizabeth then goes on a vengeful crusade against Reddington, going rogue from the FBI and gathering her own resources and people to destroy him. She enters into an alliance with a powerful, dangerous criminal Neville Townsend, the author of Townsend's Directive. This alliance however, puts Elizabeth, Reddington, the FBI task force, and her attempts to discover more about her and Reddington's past in great jeopardy.
NBC's The Blacklist was renewed for an eighth season on February 20, 2020. It was unknown when season 8 would premiere. It was anticipated to premiere in fall 2020 which it did on November 13, 2020, but after the second episode it took an hiatus until January 22, 2021 so they wouldn't get backlog with episodes if production would shut down again due to the COVID19 pandemic and delays are anticipated throughout the industry. Also the season episode number was unknown due to the shorten episode counts that all Hollywood shows are facing due to various of reasons in the Tv season, but final 2 episodes of season 7 that weren't shot were added to this season.
As a side note, Townsend doesn't appear to be all that healthy, so why does Liz think he's the partner she needs Then again, Neville remains a man of mystery who we're likely to learn more about over the course of the season.
After eight full seasons of tracking down leads, initiating and-or responding to a litany of double crosses, and combing their way through a literal laundry list of criminals, drug lords and arms dealers, the cast of "The Blacklist" finds itself at a major crossroads in the Season 8 finale. With Townsend finally dead and the Townsend Directive essentially gone with him, Red (James Spader), Liz (Megan Boone), and Dembe (Hisham Tawfiq) flee the scene of Townsend's death. In an episode entitled "Konets," Russian for "end," the team sets out to greet the new world in front of them.
Killing off the deuteragonist of a police procedural in its eighth season is definitely a bold move, and not one that many writers are likely to try after such a long time on the air. However, this is exactly what "The Blacklist" does in the last few minutes of its Season 8 finale. Liz appears outside the restaurant to kill Red, just as he requested.
With a ninth season of The Blacklist coming, it's inconceivable that Liz would be written out since the series revolves around Red, then her, in that order, no matter what viewers' opinions of Liz may be.
According to Deadline, Boone's decision to leave the series was a mutual decision between her and the show's creator Jon Bokenkamp, allowing the show's writers to craft the right arc for her final season on the show.
The Blacklist was renewed for Season 8 back in February, before the coronavirus pandemic shut down physical production on Season 7 early. The people who make The Blacklist scrambled to put together a half-animated finale, which looked crazy, but ended the season in a place that set up Season 8, which will premiere Nov. 13. And now that The Blacklist Season 7 is streaming on Netflix, people are thinking about what to expect next season even more.
A trailer has been released. In November, NBC released a trailer for the new season of The Blacklist, above. In the footage, Raymond Reddington (James Spader) says of Elizabeth Keen (Megan Boone), "I've met my share of killers, but not one like Elizabeth."
Production started in October. Star Megan Boone said on Instagram when the premiere date was announced that production would begin shortly after, with stringent health and safety protocols in place to prevent the spread of COVID-19. She later posted that the show had begun filming in October. "We are taking COVID very seriously," she wrote. New York City was cleared by the governor's office to begin production again in July, as long as the state's safety guidelines for media production are met. Boone also confirmed that the season will be "live-action, not animated."
Season 8 will begin where Season 7 left off, because Season 7 wasn't supposed to end where it did. "This year, we have all the big stuff that we were unable to finish at the end of the last season that is going to start this season," executive producer John Eisendrath said during The Blacklist's Comic Con @ Home panel. "So, the next season, Season 8, starts in a much more heightened and dramatic place than normal seasons do because we are gonna tell the story that we were unable to tell at the end of last season."
It will stream on Peacock. Season 8 will be the first one that comes out on NBCUniversal's new streaming service Peacock. New episodes will be available to stream there during the season. Currently, the last five episodes of Season 7 are available to stream for free on Peacock. Seasons 1-7 are available on Netflix.
What drives the conflict in The Blacklist season 8 is that Katarina Rostova is walking a fine line between helping Liz and making herself vulnerable. While she returned with information that might help her daughter, she also gave Reddington a trail to follow in tracking her down. In fact, in saving him after he collapsed, she may have missed her only chance to keep him from killing her.

On Friday May 15, 2020 NBC aired the Season 7 finale of The Blacklist, and it took creative guts and a herculean effort to do so because production shut down due to COVID-19, turning a planned 22-episode season into a 19-episode season. More critically, the finale only had about half of the film in the can. The risky, daring solution was to complete it in animation.
This was not an easy task. First, it was risky to partially animate a beloved series in its seventh season. And this was no easy episode to do even live. Without providing any spoilers, the finale intricately wove together a tapestry of secrets, lies, truths, backstabbing, generations of betrayals, loyalties, vendettas, life and death. To take the creative risk to achieve this in a half-animated form is simply amazing. Hats off to creator and executive producer Jon Bokenkamp, co-showrunner John Eisendrath, director of the finale Michael Caracciolo, writers of the finale Kelli Johnson and Sam Christopher, and the rest of the creative team.
Megan Boone is crossing her name off The Blacklist after eight seasons. Boone plays the female lead, Elizabeth 'Liz' Keen, opposite James Spader's Raymond 'Red' Reddington, on the series. She's scheduled to make her last appearance as a series regular during the upcoming Season 8 finale.
According to Deadline, Boone has been plotting her exit for a while. In fact, she decided to leave well before The Blacklist was picked up for a ninth season. This gave the writers ample time to craft an exit that will hopefully be well-received by fans. While she's walking away from The Blacklist, Boone already has other projects in the works to focus on.
As mentioned, The Blacklist season 7 was just added to Netflix recently. It was not on the list of September new releases, so we were surprised as anyone to see the new season available on the streaming service.
The Blacklist season 8 is scheduled to premiere on Nov. 13, 2020. If production starts soon, they might be able to hit that premiere date. If not, it could be delayed until after the start of the new year.
The Smith & Wesson M&P Shield is seen in the season with FBI agent Elizabeth Keen aka Masha Rostova (Megan Boone) as her preferred sidearm before she became rogue later on. FBI Agent Alina Park (Laura Sohn) uses it too as her sidearm. 59ce067264
